Mental Health Training Sessions in North Carolina

Last week, Richard Best of Warrior Spirit Health and Wellness LLC, had the privilege of delivering two “Behind the Tape” training sessions in North Carolina, hosted by the Durham County Sheriff’s Office.

A special thank you to Sheriff Birkhead, Chief Deputy Whitted, Lieutenant Sharp, and all those involved for their support making this possible. Multiple agencies including the Raleigh Police Department, Durham Police Department, and Duke University Campus Police Department were all represented.

Attendees ranged from newer officers to seasoned personnel, including rank and file, school resource officers and deputies, detectives and investigators, SWAT and Emergency Response Team members, and senior leadership. Both sessions were standing room only.

The fact that attendance was highly encouraged but not mandatory makes the turnout even more powerful. It speaks volumes about the culture, care, and leadership within the region.

The engagement, thoughtful questions, respect, and openness throughout both sessions reflect exactly why this work matters so much. Our mission has always been to equip first responders with the tools, mindset, and resilience needed to face “that day”, and most importantly to survive the aftermath and come through it stronger.

To those who attended, thank you for your service and commitment to excellence. We hope you left with at least seventeen reasons to train harder, lead better, and never hesitate.

If your agency values wellness, resilience, and leadership the way Durham County does, we would be honored to bring this training to your team.
